Most people seem to belong to one of two camps. “Cat people” or “dog people”. Then, there are those whose loyalties are divided – not that there’s anything wrong with that!
Have you ever heard someone say “my cat isn’t like most cats, he’s more like a dog”? Hey, if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all! I know people mean this as a compliment, but really, it’s not! I don’t have anything against dogs. It’s just that I’m a cat, and as a cat, I am proud to be aloof and wary and oh so cat-like.
Some of the cats in the house aren’t like me, they will come when they are called, greet “He” and “She” at the door when they come home, and generally seek out human companionship, but that doesn’t mean they are like dogs!
Cats don’t need approval, cats don’t wait with bated breath for your next move, and we certainly don’t get slobbery, or piddle on the floor because we are so ecstatic you have graced us with your presence. Cats have a certain regal bearing, an elegance of presence, even when we have decided we love you and are curled up in a tight little ball in your lap, we do it with grace.
If you are loved by a cat, it is a great honor, we don’t bestow our affection willy-nilly.
Dogs tend to jump, bound into your lap, lick and drool. If your dog doesn’t do those things, then you can proudly say “my dog isn’t like most dogs, he’s more like a cat”. Now, that’s a compliment!
