Oscar Wilde said “Conversation about the weather is the last refuge of the unimaginative”. But, however unimaginative one might be, the weather here bears discussion. Still no rain, and none in the forecast! This is a quote from our local forecaster:
“Deficits are adding up, area lakes and rivers are low, and the yards are brown. The bad news is there is no relief in sight. The dry weather will continue the rest of this week, the weekend, and into early next week. Afternoon highs will remain hot like our expected high today of 90 degrees.”
According to this Drought Monitor, our area is experiencing Severe Drought conditions bordering on Extreme Drought Conditions. According to the state Climatologist, this drought is in its 27th month, and dry spells only reach this severity every 50 years. Everywhere I look, the grass and fields are brown, dust is everywhere and the ground is beginning to crack open.
They say “into every life a little rain must fall”…let it be so, and let it be soon.
